Crafting specialty cocktails has become a recent, fun hobby of mine. I’m by no means an expert, but I really enjoy researching new drinks and experimenting with different flavor combinations. There’s something so fun about picking out the most interesting and flavorful mix-ins (like grapefruit juice, strawberry simple syrup, and ginger beer) and combining a shot of this with a dash of that. Of course, choosing the proper glassware and embellishing drinks with a beautiful garnish is entertaining, too!
For the past few months, Moscow mules have been my go-to drink. They’re the perfect refreshing combination of spicy ginger and tart lime, with plenty of fizz. And I always love any drink that’s a little sweet, too. After ordering this cocktail at a few different bars around the city, I decided to try making them for my roommates. I just glanced at a recipe, but it turns out to be a drink that’s super easy to throw together! We first enjoyed a round of these Moscow mules in January, but I expect this drink, which is appropriate for any season, to be a household standby for a long time to come!
Moscow Mules
Makes 1 drink
Ingredients
- 1.5 – 3 ounces vodka
- juice of 1/2 lime
- ice
- 4 ounces ginger beer
- crystallized ginger and lime slices, for garnish
Instructions
- In a glass, pour vodka and lime juice. Swirl to combine.
- Fill glass with ice and pour ginger beer over top. Top with crystallized ginger and lime slices.
Notes
- Feel free to experiment with the amount of vodka to see what tastes best to you, depending on how strong you want your drink to be. I found one to two shots to be the optimal amount.
